Here is yet another example of the problems we've allowed our politicians to create for us. Surely there must be a better way to police this sort of thing.........
I live in southern Colorado.
A few months ago, a person I work with proudly proclaimed that his wife draws unemployment benefits from the state of California in the amount of about $400 per week. They moved here from California in April/May of 2007. She has never looked for work here, and he thinks it's quite funny. According to this guy, she has drawn benefits since the day she left CA and will contine to do so through at least the end of 2009. I figured that roughly at about $50K.
I thought about it for several weeks; then my concience got the better of me. After all, these two are living "high on the hog" (motor homes and other expensive toys), and now that CA is getting federal funds for Unemp Ins, it's MY nickel too. So I blew the whistle on them.
Now the really troubling issue. Several contacts with the California EDD dept as well as the California Attorney General have gotten me nothing but "blown off". They just don't seem to care at all. I've explained to them that this is not a prank, but that my allegations are easily verifiable with a just phone call or two.
I'm pretty PO'ed about this, but I lived in California I'd REALLY be PO'ed.
I've purposely left this blog open to comments by others, hopefully, to see what reaction might be.
